Free for everyone. The demo disks aren’t included with the card unless you ordered the preloaded SD card, so grab them here.

Demo disk

Appletini Demos

A bootable 32 MB ProDOS volume showing off the card, behind an HGR launcher: new image modes, the Speed Race 1 MHz-versus-warp test, cycle-locked raster bars, Mandelbrot, a wave animation, SuperSprite, a text web browser, web server and internet image viewer, the linear text overlay, an 8088 item that boots MS-DOS 2.0, and House of the Rising Sun sung by the Phasor’s SSI-263s. Extract Appletini_Demos.po from the ZIP, mount it on a SmartPort drive, and enable the virtual cards each demo uses. Emulators need the corresponding Appletini features to run those demos.

The disk, sources and build instructions now live in appletini-software. The developer guide covers the new source layout.

Demo disk

Glyph Lab

Three animated 40-column text scenes, Phase Tunnel, Chrome City and Type Invaders, each drawn with an original font the disk uploads to the card through the new custom character-set interface. Keys 1–3 pick a scene, Space pauses, and Q or Esc restores your character ROM and quits. Needs firmware F1.3.0 or later; older firmware gets a readable message instead.

Left/Right or A/D move, Space fires (hold for autofire), R restarts.

Needs TransWarp at 33 MHz, the Phasor in slot 4 and 8 MB RamWorks · ProDOS .hdv image · 800 KB

Gallery

FATDOG MAGIC

A 32 MB picture gallery with an HGR folder menu: 32 images converted by FATDOG in Standard HGR, 20 Brooks SHR-3200 images in full 400-line interlace, and the Appletini demo image formats. Turn on phosphor blur and glow, with composite or TV output, for the best look.

Games

Games built for the card

New games and ports that use the accelerator, Super Hi-Res, RamWorks memory and the virtual Phasor. Each one is a bootable ProDOS volume: put it on the SD card, mount it on a SmartPort drive and boot it. Enable what the card lists under Needs first.

Game

DOOM GS

Webifi’s Apple IIgs DOOM, rewritten in native 65C02: Super Hi-Res, episode 1, the menus, the automap, music and effects. Arrows or W/S move, A/D strafe, Open Apple fires, E or Space uses, Tab opens the automap.

Needs TURBO, 8 MB RamWorks, the Phasor in native mode (not Mockingboard only); the mouse card is optional. Boot it as the boot volume. For speed, also check Disable DiskII Acceleration.

Game

Appletini Bosconian

An original Bosconian-style multidirectional shooter in 320×200 Super Hi-Res at 60 frames per second, with Phasor music, effects and SSI-263 speech. Arrows or I/J/K/L steer, Space or the Apple keys fire, Esc or P pauses.

Needs TransWarp at 33 MHz or TURBO and the Phasor in slot 4.

Port

The Bilestoad, SHR

The 1982 Datamost duel with its original game logic, redrawn in Super Hi-Res with 64-angle sprites and motion smoothed to the video rate, and 12-voice Phasor sound. Keys work as in the original: Q/E torso, A/D shield, Z/C axe, Open Apple thrust.

Needs TransWarp at 33 MHz or TURBO, 8 MB RamWorks and the Phasor in slot 4.

Port

Pinball Construction Set

Bill Budge’s 1982 editor and game, built from his published sources, in Super Hi-Res at 60 frames per second with the mouse and Phasor sound. Build a table, then play it: Open Apple and Closed Apple are the flippers, Space pulls the plunger.

Needs TransWarp at 33 MHz, the mouse card in slot 2, the Phasor in slot 4 and RamWorks. A sprite smear seen on hardware is still being investigated.

Music for the Phasor

Enable the virtual Phasor in slot 4 with Mockingboard only off, so all four AY chips and both speech chips are available.

Firmware

Firmware updates

Every card ships with current firmware already installed. New releases (new video modes, Apple //e refinements and other improvements) are published on GitHub, each with its own install notes.

GitHub Releases

Latest Appletini firmware

Download the newest FIRMWARE.BIN and read what changed on the project’s releases page. Use the complete file: it carries matching FPGA and ARM code. Firmware F1.3.0 brings:

  • Multiboot: install Multitini next to Appletini, with Startup firmware and Switch to Multitini on Boot Settings.
  • The About tab shows the installed Golden Boot version and updates it from the boot menu, with no serial console.
  • Custom character sets that Apple II programs upload through SmartPort; try Glyph Lab.
  • A saved TransWarp starts before the Apple //e boot prompt.
  • PR#3 opens 80 columns on the first ProDOS boot when Appletini supplies the auxiliary RAM.
  • 32, 64 and 128-cycle slowdown windows.
  • Full-output screenshots include the pixel mask and effects, and save faster.
  • Louder SSI-263 speech, with SSI volume now defaulting to 0 dB.

F1.3.0 runs on the Golden Boot already on your card. Only adding Multitini needs the new Golden Boot B2.0.6, the BOOT.BIN in the F1.3.1 release.

See the firmware section of the docs for how updates are applied and the protected recovery path.

Second firmware

Multitini

Turn the card into a Commodore 64, a Game Boy / Game Boy Color, a Genesis / Mega Drive, a Nintendo Entertainment System, a Vectrex or an Apple IIgs at nearly 60 MHz, installed side by side with Appletini. Each release’s zip has one top folder; copy its contents to the top level of the SD card:

  • FIRMWARE-MULTITINI.BIN: the Multitini firmware
  • multitini/: the six cores, with the C64, Vectrex and Apple IIgs system ROMs

You also need Appletini firmware F1.3.0 or later and Golden Boot B2.0.6, the BOOT.BIN in the Appletini F1.3.1 release above. Follow the install steps; Multitini does not use the Apple //e keyboard, so bring a USB keyboard or gamepad.

The Multitini guide covers the menu, media folders, controls and each machine.
